Join the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra for an extraordinary evening of music, highlighted by the world premiere of Malek Jandali’s Syrian Symphony. This powerful and deeply moving work stands as a testament to the resilience and spirit of the Syrian people. Composed during one of the most turbulent periods in modern Syrian history, the Syrian Symphony reflects themes of revolution and hope. Its sweeping melodies and intricate orchestration encapsulate the struggles and triumphs of a nation.
Under the baton of Grammy-nominated conductor Alastair Willis, the programme also explores the interplay of Arabic and Western musical traditions. It opens with Ascending Bird, a stunning collaboration by Colin Jacobsen and Siamak Aghaei, and features Camille Saint-Saëns’ vibrant Piano Concerto No. 5 (Egyptian), performed by the acclaimed pianist Lindsay Garritson.
The evening culminates in Jandali’s groundbreaking Syrian Symphony, an evocative masterpiece that brings the stories of Syria’s past and present to life.
